Michael Henry is an associate ecologist and webmaster with Ancient Forest Exploration and Research. He first worked with AFER in the mid-1990's, helping to study the old-growth pine forests of central Ontario. Since then he has continued to work in these forests, as well as forests in other parts of Ontario, in Hawaii, and interior British Columbia. Michael has visited more of Ontario's old-growth forests than most people alive today, and has written reports, trail guides and magazine articles on the topic. He designed and constructed the Blueberry Lake Ecology Trails in Temagami, Ontario. While he is a passionate advocate for forests, he has also selectively logged trees from a woodlot in southern Quebec. For the past several years he has been building straw bale homes with Camel's Back Construction based near his home in Peterborough, Ontario. Michael Henry is the lead author of Ontario's Old-Growth Forests, co-authored with Peter Quinby (available Dec 2009). |
Straw bale construction is one of the most ecological, practical and beautiful building techniques that exists today. You can learn more about straw bale building on the Ontario Straw Bale Building Coalition Website. |
